Explaining Death to Toddlers: Part 2

Since the last post was such a laugh riot, I thought I’d continue through that weekend, several months ago, by telling the story of the following day, the funeral.

Actually, the layout, funeral and burial ceremony all went off without a hitch. After many tears were shed at the burial, we ushered our rambunctious boys back to the church, to a gathering room underneath. They ran all over the place playing with their cousins, as young boys are wont to do. My wife mingled. And I sat at a table and pored over the papers I had in front of me. I had been recruited to give the eulogy.

When my time came, I stood nervously in front of my family and gave a speech I was completely under-qualified to give. The jokes received laughter. The poignant moments received tears.

When I finished I got a slap on the back from my old man, a handshake from my uncle. I heard the small voice of Tom screaming above the small din of applause a eulogy acquires “DAD, THAT WAS AMAZING!”

Way to keep the mood light buddy.
