What do we do when Mom’s not home?

When it’s only the boys

A few weeks ago my boys were missing their mother at dinner. On Mondays, she works late, so we eat dinner without her. Trying to sell them on our guy-only time, I imparted upon them wisdom that some men never really learn.

“Awww, man, Mom’s home! Now we have to stop.”

So what did I teach them? As long as you aren’t around women, you can make burp and fart noises to your heart’s content. And let me tell you, they ran with it.
Now our Monday nights are filled with fake flatulence and really unconvincing burps. They’re working on it.
What it really equals is some fun time with just the guys around. I think it also teaches the boys a little situational awareness. There are times when some rules are enforced, and sometimes when they aren’t. They have to adapt to these situations.
