To you
Your mother and I are so excited to meet you. I hope you know, you, and your siblings mean the world to us. We’d move the earth and stars to clear the path to your success. I’m just sad I won’t be meeting you in June. When I walked in from work, the last thing I thought would happen was Tom walking up to me, and telling me, “Mommy can’t see the baby.”
I looked up to see my wife and mother-in-law, faces red from crying sitting around the kitchen table. I realized in that split second what had happened.
This isn’t the first time. It doesn’t mean it isn’t hard. While it took only a split second to translate a three-year old’s take on the situation, it took me hours to fully process his message.
I hope God, the angels, and your two older siblings are there to take care of you, until we can meet.
I was convinced you were going to be my Becky Thatcher. The one to teach me how to put hair into a pony tail. The one I’d have tea parties with. The one I’d escort down the aisle, handing you to the partner of your dreams.
Being a parent is hard. There are many books, claiming to be the manual, yet no one can raise your children like you can. Parenting is simply trial, error, more trials, and way too many more errors. Once you finally think you might just have it figured out, your children do this funny thing, and reach a new stage of growing up, leading to more trials, and even more errors.
Being a parent is fun. I have so much fun writing about my boys, and recalling the adventures, escapades, and humorous anectdotes that occur in every day life.
I never thought becoming a parent would be so difficult.
If the big man let’s you sit by His side, please tell him I’m doing my best. And until the day I get to hold you, know I love you, your brothers, your mother, and the two siblings currently at your side.

[…] Last weekend, my wife was laying in my lap on the couch. She’s always tired, and I guess this is as good a time as any to say, we tried again, and we succeeded, and we’re hoping to meet this little guy, or lady. […]
