Your New Room

We’re redoing our house. Right now the first floor is in shambles. We had carpet my wife hated. We had hardwood I hated. We had vinyl linoleum we both hated. It’s now all gone. Our countertops are about to be ripped out and replaced with granite, because they’re beaten, worn, and well, we like granite. We’re finally getting rid of all the yellow paint that the previous owners used throughout the house. Seriously, there were seven shade of yellow in this house, and when this is all said and done, there will be zero shades of yellow.

One room that is yellow is the pantry. Because we had to remove a grocery store aisle worth of food, cooking appliances, and craft supplies from the pantry to get the flooring in, we figured now was as good a time as any to take the ugly wire shelving down, paint the room, and install some not bottom of the barrel shelving.

After causing a big ruckus Becky didn’t quite approve of, I finally finished ripping everything down. It took about an hour. Becky walked in as I was walking out and asked what I was doing. I don’t know why 60 minutes in she thought would be a good time to discuss it, but such is the mind of a child.

“Oh, just ripping all of this stuff out.”
“But, why Daddy?”

“We’re going to make it your new room.”
“Whooooa! Really?!?”

“No Princess, I’m only kidding. The room would be too small for your big girl bed anyway. And besides, then where would we put all the snacks?”
“Ok Daddy.”

I really thought I had her won over with the snack argument. Little lady loves her some snacks.

I thought nothing about it for the rest of the night and that morning. Then my wife started patching all the holes with a pink dry-wall filler.

“Ooooooooh! I’m going to have a pink room!”

/me Facepalm.
